Review: Bad Girl Good by Sadey Quinn

bad girl good

Chloe is a pretty brunette with a lot of spunk and not a whole lot of sense. After she experiences yet another failed relationship with a good guy, her long-time friend Todd enters the picture with romantic interest.

But being with Todd carries some weight. Instead of dealing with her behavior passive aggressively, like the other guys, Todd wants to spank her when she screws up. Can she submit to a guy who won’t put up with her when she’s bad?

“Bad Girl Good” is erotic romance, with sex, spankings, humiliation, and anal play. This novella is meant for an adult audience only.

I have some conflicting feelings about this book and it’s characters. There are a few things that I wasn’t in love with but this is still a pretty good read. It’s a relatively short read and it’s sexy. Chloe is a sweet girl who is a good friend and the backstory of her and her friends’ lives felt honest.

I really didn’t care too much for Todd at the start of the book, especially the first time Todd is on page with Chloe – the “meet-cute” if you prefer. Prior to and when Todd and Chloe first start to date, he lectures her often on how irresponsible she is, nagging her about how she is a “train-wreck.” Even if this was true…I just don’t know how well I could have taken that line of conversation. Maybe it’s pride, I don’t know. I *think* that it is…I feel that a conversation like that can be started by a family member, by a significant other, by a very good friend. But not by a potential lover, you know?

BDSM on GR: January 2014 Books of the Month

Remember I mentioned being a member of tons of bookclubs?? I wasn’t joking, lol.

Here’s the BDSM on GR group reads and my early decision on reading them.

just a spankingJust A Spanking: Tales of Dominance and Submission – may read but probably will not

Just a Spanking collects eight of Lisabet Sarai’s hottest BDSM stories, including three previously unpublished tales. From the light-hearted fantasy “Ruler” to the raw intensity of “Limbo”, these stories explore the many variations of power exchange, demonstrating how whips, canes, candles, ropes, or handcuffs, as well as the classic palm on a bare bottom, can open doors to the ultimate erotic experience.

Is a pure spanking, stripped of any sexual manipulation, enough to make a submissive come? Can a Dom turn a woman into his slave using just his voice? Can a banana split be an instrument of torture? Find out in this lively, arousing collection.

Review: Safe in His Arms by Renee Rose

safe in his arms

For as long as she could remember, Becca dreamed of a dominant man to take her in hand, and Zac, the handsome Marine she met at her sister’s wedding, filled the role with aplomb… for a weekend. Then the fling came to an end, Zac went off to war and died for his country, and Becca learned she carried a child who would be born without a father.

Seven years later, Becca has done her best to move on and forget about Zac… until the day she walks into her kitchen to find the man she believed she would never see again locked in mortal combat with her son’s nanny, and realizes everything she thought she knew about Zac was a lie.

Like all Black Ops agents, Zac doesn’t exist in any government record. His life is a series of deadly missions, and relationships of any kind are unsanctioned. But he keeps one secret. He watches over Becca, the beautiful daughter of a rogue agent, and Parker, the six-year-old boy he fathered that fateful weekend. When he spots a known assassin in their apartment posing as a nanny, he’s forced to reveal himself and take them to safety… whether Becca likes it or not.

While Becca may have enjoyed his dominance once, bending her to his will again may not be quite so easy. He is determined to keep her safe, however, and if a long, hard spanking is required, he is more than willing to oblige. Having Becca over his knee rekindles more than his passion, though; even when the immediate danger has passed, he finds it much more difficult to “ghost out” on his family again. Must he resign himself to protecting those he loves from afar, or can he find a way to be the man Becca needs and longs for, the man who is worthy of her submission and her love?

Publisher’s Note: Safe in His Arms is an erotic romance novel that includes both consensual and non-consensual spankings, anal play, graphic sexual scenes, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

This is short story/novella length. I find reading and reviewing shorts/novellas to always be rather challenging – so I can only imagine that writing them must be just as challenging. There’s a lot of information that needs to be condensed down to its purest version to be able to fit into the required word count.

And that is the exact same reason why I find reading shorts to be challenging – I want so much (from the book, the author, the characters, the plot) but there’s so little space available. *sigh* One of the biggest issues I normally have with shorts is the relationship of the characters themselves (not the relationship the characters have with the reader). How do you convey the appropriate amount of tension and intimacy while not writing a full length novel? The mind, it boggles.

Ruling Passion (Passions, #1) by Katherine Kingston

ruling passion

During a daring raid to rescue prisoners he was hired to free, Lord Jeoffrey Blaisdell discovers Lady Rosalind Hamilton. To secure her own release as well, she agrees to his price, though she knows she cannot pay it. When he learns of her deception, Jeoffrey offers her an alternate price for rescue…

The payment is to be reaped by Lord Jeoffrey in his bedchambers—swiftly, immediately, and all night long.

This was a rather disappointing book. The book starts with the heroine being stuck in a dungeon – she is being jailed after watching her entire family get murdered by a new “lord” of the manor. The lord plans to marry her and has tormented and jailed her to wear down her will. The “hero” recuses her in a group – for ransom. When he later finds out that she does not have the money she offered – she has to pay twice. Once for lying to him (that requires a beating with bundles of birch sticks) and once for the ransom he should have received (he’ll take her virginity for that, thank you very much).

Maintenance Night by Trent Evans

maintenance night

“Maintenance Night.” The very words make a submissive woman shudder in dread – and anticipation.

Lacey has always been just such a woman, and now she’s also a spanked wife, subject to her dominant husband’s rules, his discipline, and most of all, his desires.

She loves Troy with every atom of her being, and can’t get enough of him. But if that’s the case, why does she persist in disobeying him? For a loving couple in a serious D/s marriage, disobedience has its punishments – and its rewards.

And it’s on Maintenance Night that her husband decides to take Lacey’s submission to a deeper, even more intimate level.

Warning – this BDSM short novella features the following themes: spanking, caning, Dominance/submission (M/F), sadomasochism, bondage, explicit sex (including anal), a Dom who loves his wife, and a sweet, but disobedient sub who might be in over her head.

This book…

…it’s hot but it made me think: Are there ways you can change your mate that are irreversible?

The heroine, Lacey, is a pain slut. After marrying, she cautiously (expecting rejection) tells her husband that she is interested in Domestic Discipline and wanted to be spanked until she cried.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), her husband jumps right in, feet first.

Dark Without You by Sue Lyndon

dark without you

Total Love. Domestic Discipline. He takes her world firmly in hand…

Alice Grove owes her brother a lot. After all, he adopted her after their parents died and worked several jobs just to keep food on the table. When he asks for her help keeping a musician from the band he manages happy until the end of their tour, Alice is more than willing. She’ll do just about anything to please the enigmatic drummer she’s had a crush on since they were kids.

Andy Steel detests life in the limelight. Touring for weeks on end with no company besides his fellow band members, trashy girls, and an endless supply of booze doesn’t suit his old-fashioned ideals. He aches to have a long-lasting relationship with just one woman–but not just any relationship. He expects obedience inside and outside of the bedroom, and he won’t hesitate to enforce his rules by giving his woman a good spanking. When he meets up with his childhood friend Alice in Chicago, all grown up and aiming to please, Andy knows the heat they generate is something special. Until he hears about Alice’s real reasons for joining the tour, and until she skips town without so much as a good-bye. Andy has no qualms about chasing after her, but he may not like what he discovers along the way.

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it worked really well for the most part.

What brought my enjoyment down (and thus the rating) was the brevity. There was just so much material that the author could have developed to make this into a longer book.

Two Old-Fashioned Men (Old Fashion Man #2) by Laylah Roberts

two old fashioned men

Some of the characters from An Old-Fashioned Man are back!
Meet two of Heath’s brothers, Cam and Kent, as they meet the woman meant to be theirs.
Bryony Andrews has never had much luck-with men or jobs. She’s down to her last few dollars when she drives out to the Double J ranch in a thunderstorm to ask about a housekeeping job.
Cam is ecstatic. He thinks Bryony is the woman they’ve been looking. The woman to make Kent smile again. He and his brother enjoy sharing their women, and Cam sees Bryony as a woman they could keep. Forever.
Kent had sworn off woman after his last experience with a cheating ex. But sweet Bryony filters through the hard shell he’s placed around his heart.
Bryony’s ecstatic to have a job, but can she handle her incredibly sexy, handsome employees and their very old-fashioned views on how to treat a woman.
Includes things that may offend some, including light BDSM, spanking, anal play.

Well, I’m not sure what I was expecting. This is the second domestic discipline book I’ve read. It was…ok. I think was expecting more sexual innuendo, more impact play and more punishment.

It was a cute m/f/m story for the most part. The guys were overprotective (as expected) and the heroine was a damsel in distress. Not too much to work with.

The ex-girlfriend angle was…unnecessary.

The Unrequited Dom by Carolyn Faulkner

the unrequited dom

It wasn’t supposed to be like this between them. She knew it was wrong, but it was so very, very right at the same time.

Technically, Eden “Sugar” Maillheux had been Cash Daughtrey’s step-sister for more than a decade now, but she’d never felt sisterly towards him in the least, and, aside from the fact that he took to disciplining and controlling her very, very strictly – once she became an adult – it definitely wasn’t brotherly love that was radiating hotly from his side of the desk he bent her over so often, either.

Cash’s brand of lovingly strict discipline naturally developed into something more – much more between them – wildly hot lovemaking that took her breath away every time she thought of it, and kept her coming back for more through out her college years.

Yet it wasn’t quite enough to ease her mind about the rightness of those deep, dark desires, and she moved away, taking his heart with him.

But he ruthlessly used the only means that presented itself a few years later to get her back on his land, knowing he would never again let her go.

3 stars with major reservations

I’m starting to think that Carolyn Faulkner is the Queen of Great Blurbs…because this is the 3rd book of hers that I’ve read that sucked me in via the blurb. She should give lessons, lol. I’m not sure how this keeps happening.

I have to say…I liked this one a lot better than the first one (Kept) but just as the last one (Skye’s Submission) this one has some glaring problems.

Skye’s Submission by Carolyn Faulkner

skyes submission

Skye Sommers had come to Rourke Danville beaten but not broken, and he had stepped up and rescued her – a complete stranger to him. He’d rented one of his houses, on his own land, to her and then, when the situation between herself and her attacker had become heated, he’d not so much as batted an eye at opening his own house to her. In fact, it had been much more like he hadn’t given her a choice about whether or not she was going to come to stay with him, because he’d already begun putting his size 13 triple E’s down, or rather his triple extra large palm down on her bottom when he deemed it necessary to gain her cooperation in any given matter, or to correct what he considered to be disobedient behavior – which seemed to be anything that disagreed with him. And he certainly wasn’t going to hesitate to do so when it was a matter of her personal safety. Quite the contrary.

She nearly snorted as she remembered that he’d threatened to spank her within about five minutes of having met her, which almost had her running screaming in the opposite direction. And now, here she was, long after the event that had freed her from having to worry about Mark Mercer for several decades as he languished in jail, waiting for the first stroke of that wicked looking quirt of his to fall.

This book was originally published on Spanking Romance as “Skyes Submission, Book One”, “Skye’s Submission, Book Two”, and “Skye’s Submission, Book Three: The Wedding”.

I’m rather sad about this book. It had a lot more promise that it delivered.

Rating: I started with 5 stars for this book but a humongous editing error required an automatic 1 star deduction. The highest rating I could give this book was 4 stars.

So, to start with the auto-deduction: As an FYI, I’m no grammar/editing freak. If I notice it…it’s a huge freaking glowing-neon error.
