Review: The Heat is On (Out of Uniform #6) by Elle Kennedy

The Heat is On

As a Navy SEAL, Matt O’Connor specializes in Bad Boy. At least, that’s what he thinks…until he finds himself face down on the floor during a bank robbery, arguing with a sexy, bad-girl blonde who wields her sharp tongue with surgical precision.

Just like that, Matt begins to wonder if maybe the idea of settling down with one woman isn’t as crazy as he thought.

Savannah Harte is addicted to first kisses and whirlwind romances. Once the thrill is gone, though, she’s outta there. She’s eager to follow the adrenaline rush she feels with Matt into the nearest bed, but when tangled sheets begin to feel like tangled heartstrings, her first instinct is to cut him loose. There’s only one problem: Matt’s not going anywhere. And not even a steamy threesome seems to dull her growing feelings.

Which leaves Savannah having to decide what she wants more. The casual thrill of now…or the scary thrill of forever.

Product Warnings: This title features a hot threesome with explicit sex, a bad-girl heroine, and two Navy SEALs guaranteed to make you sweat.

Meh.

There was a lot to like about The Heat is On…but there was also a lot I didn’t like. And frankly, I’m going to chalk part of it up as a learning experience.

The Heat is On is one of those rare romance books where gender roles are slightly reversed. Savannah, the heroine, doesn’t like relationships – her drug of choice are relationship firsts: first kisses, first dates, first fucks, etc. As soon as a guy Savannah is dating starts getting serious, she starts packing her bags. This works for her until she meets the hero, Matt.

Review: Goddess in the Middle (Forgotten Goddesses #3) by Stephanie Julian

Goddess in the Middle

“Incredibly erotic, unconventional, romantic love story”

TOGETHER. THEY CREATE THE MOST POWERFUL MAGIC OF ALL …

Romulus and Remus are sexy werewolf cousins with an unbreakable bond. When they meet beautiful goddess Amity and save her from an encroaching demon, they discover that the three of them together are way more powerful than any of them could ever have imagined. And they’re going to need that power to overcome the forces that are determined to steal Amity’s magic and destroy the two men. As different as night and day, and each an amazing man in his own right, Rom and Remy make all of Amity’s deepest fantasies come true…

Goddess in the Middle is the eighth (8) book I’ve read using the Scribd service and the third (and final?) book in the Forgotten Goddesses series. This book is currently on sale at Kobo for $10.09. Stephanie Julian is a new to me (NTM) author that I discovered using the Scribd recommendation engine.

So. I’ve finally finished the Forgotten Goddesses series. I think. The reason I said “I think” is because the book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger regarding some events not related to the romance or the overarching plot of the series. I *think* the loose ends are related to events that are attached to other series by Julian set in this same world. I think.

Review: Tempting Tamera (Circle of Three #1) by Brynn Paulin

Tempting Tamera

A new job, a new home, a new lifestyle… When teacher Tamera moved to Cranston to teach, she knew the lifestyle she’d encounter would take some getting used to. Though she was raised in an open-minded household she doesn’t have experience with menage relationships therefore her attraction to her fellow teachers, Kai and Brian, takes her by surprise.

When the trio is stranded together during a freak snowstorm, Tamera discovers her attraction isn’t one sided. In fact, the men have been waiting for the opportunity to show her how perfect three can be.

Tempting Tamara is the fourth book I’ve read using the Scribd service and the first book in the Circle of Three series. This book is currently on sale at Kobo for $2.50. I located this book using Scribd’s search but I was doing a specific search for Brynn Paulin at the time. The book I was looking for is not available on Scribd.

So. This book. I was looking for something else by this author and settled on this book instead.

Tempting Tamera is short. Very short. And like most shorts – there are serious pacing issues due to the shortness of the story.

Short stories are really hard to write – the format is pretty unforgiving. I also tend to “grade” shorts harder than full length novels simply because the flaws are glaring in a short that would get glossed over in a full length.

So. Tempting Tamera. Uuuugh. The dialogue is quite often painful! And the plot is…hard to digest in such a short period of time. The story starts with the heroine and hero(es) having known each other for about…3 months or so. Even knowing that – the quick jump from making eyes at someone to being “in love” happened waaaaaay to fast for me. I was rolling my eyes most of the read.

Another issue I had was the introduction and plotline of the heroine’s….pre-arranged boyfriend? Not quite sure what to call him, to be honest. The whole situation was BS and caused additional eye rolling. Don’t get me wrong, I love a little menage and the plot (except Andy) all probably would work better in a longer format. The longer format just gives more time for character and plot building.

At the end of the day, this was an easy way to burn through 20 minutes or so.

Tangled Leashes (Leashed #4) by Jet Mykles

Sometimes we get what we never wanted, and Meg never wanted to be grand dame. Now that she’s got the job, she’s doing her damnedest to do it right. But it’s far from a one woman show.

Michael is the one who really should be running the show, but his newly discovered magic powers make managing his own life almost too much to handle. Then there’s Rudy. Sweet Rudy who is all about doing everything he can, but who’s just too young and inexperienced to be much help. So what’s a busy grand dame to do?

Lucky for Meg, she’s got one more shapeshifter to lean on. Connections, personality and background make Logan uniquely suited to be Meg’s righthand man, at least in the public eye. Problem is, he claims to be in love with her. It’s not that she doesn’t think he’s great — because she does — but there’s no more room in her bed or her heart for another man.

Just to make matters worse, a witch and a shapeshifter from Michael’s past arrive in LA asking for help.

Great. Just… great.

I love the Leashed series. I think this is the only (romance) series that has the same main characters that I follow.

That being said, there are some major issues I had with this recent installation. SPOILERS AHEAD

Pros
-Michael. Damn. I want one, lol. Michael is his normal ridiculously sexy, domineering and bossy self. Does anyone else notice that though Meg is the heroine…Michael is the one who gets what he wants every time?
-Rudy. I heart Rudy.
-The sex scenes were H.O.T.
-Michael, Rudy and Meg. Need I say more?

Snowballs in Hell (Princess of Hell #2) by Eve Langlais

snowballs in hell

My brother, the antichrist, has it so much easier than me.

Hi, I’m Muriel, misbegotten daughter of Satan, and once again my life is in turmoil. The cowled one who tortured me left a curse on my mind, one that makes me afraid. Completely unacceptable, but in order to remove it, I have to do something even worse—betray my beloved by bringing another man into our bed.

As if having to participate in a threesome isn’t traumatizing enough, Hell has frozen over, and as much as I think Hades looks pretty in a blanket of white, the repercussions are severe. It’s a good thing this princess of Hell has two lovers determined to charge my magic in pleasurable ways.

I’ll admit, it’s not easy having nympho magic, but I’m prepared to suck it up—and swallow—for the sake of saving the world.

This 2 star rating hurts me more than Eve Langlais, I’m sure. I’ve noticed that almost everyone loves this book.

I loved the first book in this series and I’m also an Eve Langlais fan.

But this book felt so wrong to me. It…bothered me quite a bit.

As usual I loved Muriel and everything about her. Regarding her men: I felt that her (primary) man was not really even around and the 3rd for their trio felt like a cardboard cut-out.

But that wouldn’t have bothered me too much if not for one thing:

Muriel.

Tequila Sunrise (Last Call #3) by Moira Rogers

Werewolf Evelyn Smith loves her boyfriend, Kieran. Some people find it odd that an alpha female would choose a weaker mate, but Evelyn is willing to ignore her occasional cravings for submission when the reward is a fulfilling life with a man who loves her. Kieran Rhys doesn’t mind the mocking jibes of his pack, but knowing the woman he loves has needs he can’t meet drives him crazy. After months of coaxing, he’s finally convinced Evelyn to accompany him to Last Call. If he can’t give his lover what she needs, he’ll find someone to help him. Tequila Sunrise: Looking for domination. Unrequited love has been hard on Zack Elliott. Even if the object of his desire returned his feelings, she’s a fragile human whose body couldn’t withstand the force of his needs. Evelyn and Kieran seem like the perfect solution, especially when he realizes the one thing they need is the one thing he’s been holding back for far too long–absolute domination.

Another $0.99 book that has less than 30 pages (cause I don’t count the promotional material at the end).

I really liked Zack in this book. The other two characters…*shrug*I was – disappointed with the ending. And with how much money I spent.

Their Virgin Captive (Masters of Menage, #1) by Shayla Black & Lexi Blake

Brothers Gavin, Slade, and Dex, fall hard for Gavin’s new secretary, beautiful Hannah Craig. The oil executives know they must give her time to get to know them before she can choose one . . . who will seduce the virgin and keep her for his own. But when a dangerous predator begins stalking the small-town beauty, they work together to protect her, abducting Hannah and spiriting her to an isolated hideaway. Once alone with her, none of them can contain their burning desire. Though Slade and Dex don’t mind sharing, Gavin’s tragic past has put distance between him and his brothers. Now, they’re hoping that not only will Hannah love them back . . . but maybe mend their fractured family.

After overcoming her initial fears, the men teach her wild pleasure she’s never imagined. She grows closer to each, their devotion melting her inhibitions. Hannah finds herself embracing love with all three men—and hoping she can heal Gavin’s wounded soul. But her new found happiness turns to terror when her stalker finds her. Will Gavin, Slade and Dex lose their woman to a menace that threatens everything they hold dear, or will they finally unite to make Hannah theirs forever?

Now I’m starting to feel like the dirty old grumpy lady of reading, lol.

***Warning: dirty language ahead***

I was really excited to finally get a chance to read Their Virgin Captive. I mean, really really excited. A friend gifted this book to me and I literally did a happy dance. For some reason my husband found this both amusing and slightly concerning, lol.

Sadly, my excitement didn’t last too far past the first chapter. There was…just too much chatter about absolutely nothing and not enough sex for an erotica. I mean…this is a ménage! Why is no one getting DP’d until the very end?? (See, I told you it made me feel dirty, lol.) I was reading this like, “Why am I reading a ménage with very little ménage?” And except for the spanking at the beginning the sex scenes weren’t that great. Well, I liked the first and second ones a lot more than the final one. The final one felt way too forced (and it was the only one with DP).
